              Item consists of the 1914 Appleby School Prospectus brochure as well as picture brochure.

              The picture brochure includes School House (now Colley House), classrooms, science room, reading room, dining hall, dorm room, gymnasium, a map of the school grounds, gym class performing Swedish Drill, ball court and outside of gymnasium, cricket field, students riding horses and standing near the barn, rowing on the creek, the cow stable, the creek and the harbour.

              The Prospectus brochure also includes photographs of the temporary residence (McCraney House), the hospital or infirmary, the science laboratory building, Headmaster's residence, the Lodge - Faculty residence, playing fields, the hockey rink, and the 1913 Prefects. It discusses the barn fire in November 1913 and the plans for construction of new barn, stables and separate gymnasium building. The brochure also discusses "Mr. Powell's House", the temporary dormitory located in the McCraney House across the street from the school.

              The brochure describes the buildings on campus, including the new dormitory, 'New House' (now known as McCraney House) which the school purchased along with 5 acres of land in 1921. It was located on the other side of the highway. It also describes the staff, courses of study, religious instruction, sports, regulations, fee structure, dress code and application form.

              File consists of correspondence related to the history of Appleby College. It includes a 1917 letter inquiring about the sale of a bull, a postcard addressed to the school dated to 1918, a 1919 letter from Prince Edward - The Prince of Wales from his visit to Canada, a Christmas greeting letter from 1935 talking about the skating and ice conditions, a letter to Sir Edmund Walker regarding a suitable camp site for the students in 1920 (Camp Kushog - See Dec. 1920 Argus), a letter dated to 1938 discussing the cooking and food offerings at the school, reminiscences of school days gone by, the hanging of the new Canadian flag at Appleby College in 1965, and a letter dated to 1966 discussing the 1913-1914 prefects.

              The file also includes correspondence regarding Miss Grindlay's photo album, correspondence from various alumni about their time at Appleby, correspondence about articles in the Quarterly and Argus including the school bell, as well as letters from family of alumni who may have donated items to the school archives. It also includes a sworn declaration regarding the history of McCraney House.

              Sub-series consists of a ledger book with an early written record describing the establishment of the school from 1911 to 1915, including when the following buildings were constructed: the School House (now Colley House), Headmaster's House, the hospital (infirmary), the chemical laboratory, ice rink and opening of Second House (Powell's House), when McCraney Farm leased. It records the fire of the original gym and stable and the building of the new barn and gym. It also lists when the school opened and the names of the original teachers, staff and students. It records when staff and faculty resigned and when students left the school. It lists the names and dates of the Appleby Dramatic Club productions. It records the first Prizegiving Ceremony and Sports Day and the establishment of the Cadet Corps. It also records when faculty, staff, students and alumni signed up for military positions during the start of World War I. Finally, it records the purchase of the new billiard table for School House by Sir Edmund Walker.

              There is a single page towards the back of the ledger with lists the names of students who are in the school picture taken Apr. 29, 1919. It also includes the city where they are from and their nickname or preferred name.
