  • Sports Day was Appleby's track and field event that was introduced in May 1913 and ended in 1999. In the 1950's, a track team was established outside of Sports Day.

Images include swimming events, the youth camp where the students stayed, track and field events, and the streets and countryside of Berlin.         Item consists of the 1950 Appleby College Prospectus brochure and original art for the map in the brochure.

        The brochure includes an aerial photograph of the college campus, Powell's House and School House (now Colley House), interior view of the chapel, the chapel choir, Appleby College sign on campus, the exterior of the chapel, the dining hall, the recreation room, wood working lab, classrooms and science lab, dorm rooms, school play, football, hockey, gymnastics, cricket, cadets, hockey, Wolf Cub and cub scouts, track and field, golf, tobogganing, and Sports Day.

        The brochure describes the aims of the college, lists awards available for students, daily routine timeline, curriculum, rules and regulations as well as other information about the school.

        Item consists of a colour photograph of alumni softball players on the Appleby College campus. Note on verso: "Spring Alumni Softball Round-Robin - Believe it or not, these ever-growing alumni did play softball on a beautiful Saturday in June 1993. The year vs. year round-robin has great potential for the future! From left to right, Vince Valentini '88, Vince Rinaldi '88, Jamie Stuart '88, Ross Wace '88, Bill Jappy '89, Michael Still '88, Chris Funnell '88, Scott Jarrett '86, Brett Coleman '89, Jamie Nadeau '88, Michael Rickards '88 and Rob Carmichael '86." This event was described in The Appleby Quarterly (December 1993, vol. 15, no. 2).

        File consists of records pertaining to the Annual Games/ Sports Day at Appleby College. The programs also contain the awards and prizes given to during the Annual Prizegiving Ceremony, which was held after the games. These were also known as prize lists.

        File also consists of the invitations for attending the annual sports day and prizegiving ceremony. These invitations often list the guest of honour who is presenting the awards to students.

        File also consists of a field measurement log book which belonged to David "Digger Smith". There are also final scorebooks/ledger books for each of the events. In the 1980-1988 ledger book are also programmes for the years between 1982 and 1988.

        File consists of two Appleby School Annual Games programmes, one for 1917 and one for 1926. They list the sports events, the prizes, the judges and the names of individuals who are presenting the prizes to the students. The 1917 programme also lists the students who are competing. Raymond Hart Massey is listed as one of the judges for the 1917 competition.

        Item consists of the June 1920 Argus yearbook. It discusses a large donation for the fundraising of the Memorial Chapel on campus as well as the formation of the Appleby College Old Boys' Association (now the Alumni Association).

        File consists of correspondence to E.B. Walker (Ewart Buchan Walker was the father of Wentworth Dillon Walker) regarding different Appleby School issues. It includes a speech given by Rev. J.A.M. Bell to the Appleby School Fathers Association entitled "What Appleby does for a Boy", a copy of the 1938 Appleby School Prospectus brochure, and the June 1922 Appleby School Prize List.
