          Fonds consists of 176 number of digital photographs taken by David and his brother Bruce Gibson during their time at the Appleby College northern campus on Lake Temagami at Rabbitnose Island. The brothers were part of the first set of students to be able to go and use the facilities when it opened in 1974.

          Item consists of the Desmond T. Burke Memorial Trophy for swimming.

          The trophy was sponsored by Dr. W. Desmond Burke, who's two sons (Desmond '78 and David '80) where attending Appleby College and for whom both were avid swimmers. This trophy was named in honour of their grandfather, Desmond T. Burke in recognition of his interest in the pursuance of excellence in sport. The trophy was awarded to the student who showed the greatest degree of excellence in swimming in the Junior School.

          This is the second trophy that Dr. Burke sponsored for swimming at Appleby College.

          The trophy was awarded in the first full year that Appleby had a swimming program. The Junior School program at Appleby College ended in June 1993.

          Interhouse Swimming Trophy

          Item consists of the Appleby College Interhouse swimming cup presented by Dr. and Mrs. D.W. Burke.

          This trophy was sponsored by Dr. W. Desmond Burke and his wife because their two sons (Desmond '78 and David' 80) were attending Appleby and involved in the swimming program. This trophy was initially called the 'W. Desmond Burke Inter-House Trophy) and was awarded to the winners of an Inter-House competition held annually on the first Saturday of the New School Year. This trophy was awarded in the first year of swimming program at Appleby College.

          This was the first of two trophies that Dr. Burke sponsored for swimming.

Bell, football, rugby, various guest speakers to the school.

The photographs depict life for the students at the Northern Campus, such as scuba diving, swimming, canoeing, water skiing, snowshoeing, building tents and fires as well as cutting wood. Images of buildings, equipment and interview views of the kitchen, dining room and other main lodge rooms can also be seen.
