Item consists of the Daphne M. Collins Award for Academic Distinction in Grade VI (six) at Appleby College (Junior School). Grade six ended at Appleby College in June 1993. Between 1994 and 1999, the award was presented to a Middle School student who was a keen and inquiring learner.

Daphne M. Collins was an English Teacher at Appleby College from Sept. 1979 until her retirement in June 1986. She was also an Academic Counsellor for Grades 4 to 6 during the 1985-1986 academic year. She taught English to grades 5, 6 and 7.

Note on verso: "Co-ordinator of Junior School English David Boyd recently celebrated the release of his three new children's novels with a reception at Appleby. Boyd, who is in his 16th year of teaching at the school, has produced several plays for Appleby boys to perform, and published his first novel for children last May. The new books, called Spellbound!, The Danger Beneath and Earthwatch, are published by Oakville's Rubicon Publishing Ltd. Appleby parent Maggie Goh heads the company. Boyd, shown here discussing business with his editor Elizabeth Siegel, is currently working on another ambitious literary project: a trilogy set in medieval England, Niagara Falls in 1870 and Paris in 1940." Item consists of the Desmond T. Burke Memorial Trophy for swimming.

The trophy was sponsored by Dr. W. Desmond Burke, who's two sons (Desmond '78 and David '80) where attending Appleby College and for whom both were avid swimmers. This trophy was named in honour of their grandfather, Desmond T. Burke in recognition of his interest in the pursuance of excellence in sport. The trophy was awarded to the student who showed the greatest degree of excellence in swimming in the Junior School.

This is the second trophy that Dr. Burke sponsored for swimming at Appleby College.

The trophy was awarded in the first full year that Appleby had a swimming program. The Junior School program at Appleby College ended in June 1993.
