This trophy was sponsored by Dr. W. Desmond Burke and his wife because their two sons (Desmond '78 and David' 80) were attending Appleby and involved in the swimming program. This trophy was initially called the 'W. Desmond Burke Inter-House Trophy) and was awarded to the winners of an Inter-House competition held annually on the first Saturday of the New School Year. This trophy was awarded in the first year of swimming program at Appleby College.
This was the first of two trophies that Dr. Burke sponsored for swimming.

Mr. Payne (1890 - 1983) was a well-known Canadian artist created this souvenir book for the school in 1930-1931. The cost of the book at the time was $3 and the school had 100 copies of the book made. See article on pgs. 33-34 of the Feb. 1931 Argus.
