Item consists of the 1916-1917 Appleby School Prospectus brochure. It includes photographs of School House (now Colley House), the sports fields, McCraney House, dormitories, dining hall, classrooms, reading room, science laboratory, gymnasium, Swedish Drill, hockey rink, cadet corps, Sports Day, the creek, cricket, 1st Cricket Team and 2nd Cricket team, The Lodge - Faculty residence, the cow stable, and the harbour. It also includes a panoramic of the entire school grounds.

The brochure also discusses the new science laboratory, the hospital, the new gymnasium built in January 1915, Powell's House, the farm, courses of study, religious instruction, sports, rules and regulations, fee structure, uniform and dress code as well as an application form.

Item consists of a sound recording of an oral history interview between faculty member Mr. H.C. Hardwick who taught English and French from 1929 and 1964, and alumni's Randy Smye '63 and Michael DesRoches '62. They discuss life at Appleby College including quite a bit about corporal punishment and discipline.

It includes discussion of faculty member Mr. Colley and various incidents during World War 2. There is discussion about Mr. Wickens both as a teacher and later as a headmaster, life at Appleby during the Depression years and the economic difficulties the school faced; how Mr. Hardwick came to be at Appleby College as a languages teacher; how Mr. Whittington and Mr. Wickens oversaw the dramatic society.
Mr. Hardwick talks about the publication of his books as well as the school play 'How Lancelot came to Camelot'.
Other topics include: tug of war teams, inter-house battles, new gym, junior school, chapel - the opening and the organ, E.V. Brown and the building of his house; female staff including Miss James and Miss Niblett; founder Mr. Guest; the electrical system at the school, floods; facilities man Bert Halsey; different teachers and some of the stories about them and their personal lives; lists various early students and their personalities and how they were punished when they were bad.

Item consists of a video of the 1941 Cadet Corps Inspection and Prizegiving Ceremony at Appleby College. Video has no sound. The Cadets parade around from 0.00 to 2.35 minutes. From 2.36 to 3.18 minutes the students are lined up in their sports jackets and white duck pants for Prizegiving Ceremony presentations. From 3.19 to 3.33 the Cadets march again. Throughout the video you can see several men in their military uniforms, as this is during World War 2.

Item consists of a movie about the 1932 Appleby School Travel Club European Tour. The tour group travelled to England, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Germany. The group toured many castles and schools, as well as World War 1 sites, including Ypres.

Included in the footage are scenes from Appleby College, including Colley House Residence, Powell's House Residence, the Headmaster's House and the Covered Rink, cricket team, gymnastics, physical training for both junior and senior classes, tennis courts, the chapel and the college campus.

A shot list outlining the trip is included.

Item consists of the E.G. Beardmore Trophy for the best Sergeant in the Cadet Corps, presented by E.G. Beardmore. This award was affiliated with the Appleby College Cadet Corps #440.

E. Gordon Beardmore attended Appleby College from 1934 to 1940. He was a prefect in 1939; played rugby, cricket, hockey and was also on the gym team. He was also Captain of the Cadet Corps in 1939-1940. During World War 2 he served as a Lieutenant and by 1959 was a Major of the Royal Regiment of Canada.

File consists of correspondence between Headmaster Mr. Guest and employee, Edith Grindlay. Edith was hired in 1911 to be both school nurse and school matron, and was one of the original employees when the school opened. Correspondence includes reference letters and her acceptance letter; letters regarding purchasing initial supplies and setting up the dormitories, kitchen and infirmary in the original School House (later Colley House) in 1911. Later letters include which supplies to order for the new Headmaster's house and the hospital, which were built in 1913. Supplies that are discussed include curtains, bedding, linens, flooring, paint, and dishes. There is also correspondence about Edith learning to type on a typewriter, canning supplies and canning the fruit on the property, as well as where to purchase and how much food should be purchased.

During World War 1 there is correspondence about rationing and the rising cost of food, as well as brief mentions of alumni who had gone off to war, including Massey, Crawley and Powell.

There is quite a lot of correspondence about the hiring and salary of female domestic staff including kitchen and dormitory cleaning staff. There is also some mention of the men on the Facilities team and the work they should be doing as well as some of their personal problems, including drinking.

There is also quite a lot of correspondence about supply orders and payments, with several receipts from Eatons, Singer Sewing Machine Company and others.

Throughout the letters there are brief mentions of early staff members including Mr. Colley, Mr. Powell and Mr. Whittington.

Edith worked for Appleby from 1911 until she was married in October 1920. She did come back to work for a short period of time in 1924 and there is one letter, possibly from her 1924 return which outlines what she will try to accomplish.

File includes the speech given by alumni Richard MacFarlane in May 31, 2004 regarding 'Freedom of the Press' and his father, Douglas MacFarlane, who was a newspaper man during and after World War 2.

Sub-series consists of correspondence from the Headmaster to various people and organizations. It also includes meeting notes from Assistant headmasters meeting with the headmaster.

Sub-series includes correspondence to Headmaster Rev. John Bell regarding the proposal for school aged boys in England to be evacuated to Canada during World War 2 and for Appleby to start preparations. There is also correspondence about a request from the National Department of Pensions and National Health regarding providing training to the students in case there is an air raid or bombing in Canada, as well as requesting that school publications refrain from printing information about the location of Old Boys serving overseas.

In the centre, a plaque is featured on the Memorial Classroom Building to honour those from Appleby College who died in World War I. This event was described in The Appleby Quarterly (April 1994, vol. 15, no. 3).

It includes articles about Cadets, gymnastics, Sports Day, Closing Day, the Chapel, the death of Sir Edmund Walker - the co-founder of the school (oversized encapsulation), Track and Field, a fire at Appleby during the 1930's, the death of Samuel Clarke, the hanging of the new Canadian flag on campus, 55th anniversary of Appleby College, the retirement of Headmaster Dr. J.A.M. Bell, football, rugby, various guest speakers to the school.

Sub-series also includes an article by Wilder Breckenridge about what it was like at the school when it first opened in 1911; articles about the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the building campaign including a new hospital and library; the introduction of girls from St. Mildred's Lightbourn School participating in the school plays at Appleby beginning in 1971; and what is like at a private school. File also includes a larger Honour Roll document listing the men who gave their lives during World War 2.

Sub-series consists of a ledger book with an early written record describing the establishment of the school from 1911 to 1915, including when the following buildings were constructed: the School House (now Colley House), Headmaster's House, the hospital (infirmary), the chemical laboratory, ice rink and opening of Second House (Powell's House), when McCraney Farm leased. It records the fire of the original gym and stable and the building of the new barn and gym. It also lists when the school opened and the names of the original teachers, staff and students. It records when staff and faculty resigned and when students left the school. It lists the names and dates of the Appleby Dramatic Club productions. It records the first Prizegiving Ceremony and Sports Day and the establishment of the Cadet Corps. It also records when faculty, staff, students and alumni signed up for military positions during the start of World War I. Finally, it records the purchase of the new billiard table for School House by Sir Edmund Walker.

There is a single page towards the back of the ledger with lists the names of students who are in the school picture taken Apr. 29, 1919. It also includes the city where they are from and their nickname or preferred name.
