Item consists of a colour photograph of new Mathematics and Computer Science teacher Peter Thompson. Note on verso: "Coming to us from a job in Cambridge, England is Peter Thompson. Peter is joining the faculty as a Mathematics and Computer Science teacher in the Senior School, and currently handles classes in Calculus, Math and Computer Science. He has both his Honours Bachelor of Science and B.Ed. from the University of Western Ontario. For the past two years, he has been teaching at the Lycee Cambridge in England, where he organized and ran the intramural sports programme. Prior to that, he had spent five years teaching Math and Computer Science and coaching soccer, alpine skiing and volleyball at high schools in Campbellford, Deep River and Toronto. Peter can expect to add some coaching to his list of activities at Appleby: so far, he has been recruited to help out with the second volleyball team and the intramural programme. He is also acting as faculty advisor for the school's student-run Amnesty International group, and the model building club. Travelling has been one of his favourite pastimes, and he has found his way through England, Scotland and much of continental Europe, as well as across Canada. Other hobbies include skiing, canoeing, hiking, photography and computer programming. He and his wife Jo-Anne live in Burlington with their two children, Allison and Andrew." Intramural sports, badminton in the Spring and board games round out her extracurricular commitments. A graduate of Havergal College in Toronto, Gale taught Math at the Bishop Strachan School for the past nine years. She was also involved in coaching several badminton, hockey and baseball teams. She spent several summers working as a science demonstrator and hostess with the Ontario Science Centre, a lifeguard with the Toronto City Parks and Recreation department, and a camp counsellor and canoe instructor with Camp Kawabi in Haliburton. But he won't need to worry about spending all of his time in the classroom - he has already signed up to help with Outdoor Pursuits and the senior Swimming programme. And Brian, along with his wife Catherine (who will be joining the Appleby staff next Fall), is the new assistant Housemaster in Powell's. In anticipation of the imminent arrival of girls at Appleby, Catherine Raaflaub has been appointed Dean of Women. Catherine has extensive experience in counselling and teaching, and was most recently a member of the faculty at the Country Day School in King, Ontario where she taught Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Science."
