The Turquand Cup for Boxing was given in memory of Aubrey de Vere Arnold Turquand who was the first Appleby Old Boy to give his life in World War 1. This prized trophy was awarded to the heavyweight champion during the annual boxing tournament.

The first winner of the Cup was J.S. Scully, who also took home a smaller cup to remember the occasion (see June 1916 Argus).
