Einar V. Rechnitzer was born on November 8, 1903, to Einar and Alexandra Rechnitzer in London, Ontario. He attended Appleby School from September 1917 to December 1921 and is considered a graduate of the 1922 class. He participated in boxing, tennis soccer, hockey, badminton and Cadets while at Appleby. In 1921 he was the Head Prefect of Powell's House and also a Lieutenant in Cadets. He left Appleby and attended Western University and played on their football team. His business career started in newspaper reporting with the London Advertiser and the Toronto Daily Star. Afterwards he switched to advertising wherein he was employed by several advertising firms and finally with MacLaren Advertising Company Limited. He became president of MacLaren Advertising in 1955 and continued until 1964. He was also Chairman of the Board.

He was appointed to the Appleby College Board of Governors in May 1957 and remained on the Board till his death. He also became president of the Old Boys Association in 1937. His son Eric also attended Appleby from September 1960 to June 1962.

Einar died on September 27, 1965.
