Pigskin Revival Dinner

File consists of records pertaining to the Pigskin Revival dinner held in 1992 to commemorate the Appleby College football teams from 1959 - 1969. The theme was 'Blue Grit' as these were some of the most successful football teams the school had ever had. The file includes correspondence, a commemorate booklet about each team and contact lists for alumni.

File includes copies of a large poster: 'Blue Grit" football from 1959-1969, listing all the players for those years and includes a picture of a football team.

Head Prefect:
Scrapbook contains a copied photograph of John's graduation year writeup in the 1976 Argus yearbook with the note: "Graduation photo from Argus 1976. (Text by my friend Jim Wetmore; photo by Michael Desroche)" (original photograph on pg. 14 of the 1975-1976 Argus yearbook). It also includes two copied photographs of John during the school year, one during the graduation ceremony in June 1976 (original photographs appear on pgs. 28 and 134 of the 1975-1976 Argus yearbook).

Hockey:
Scrapbook includes a copied photograph of the 1976 Second Hockey team listing player names (original photograph on pg. 90 of the 1975-1976 Argus yearbook), it also includes an original photograph of the 1973 Second Hockey team with the note: "second hockey team, 1973, coach: Mr. David Manbert)." This photograph assigned photo number PH01-0102.

School plays:
Scrapbook contains John's copy of The Mikado script with the following note: My copy of the script from "The Mikado" which was staged in April 1975. Annotated with my stage directions, and those of Mr. Michael DesRoches, the very talented Director of our production. Mr. DeRoches was the one who offered me the opportunity to do this work." It includes the programme for The Mikado, along with a letter in an envelope with the following note: "Tracey, Here's a nice note that related to my days as stage manager of the annual operetta production. It's from Robin Woodward a then student at St. Mildred Lightborn School. We worked the stage together for 3 major productions. She sent me this after our work on "The Mikado" in 1975." Scrapbook also contains items relating to a one act play "Fool's Errand. John has attached the following note: "Items relating to a One-Act-Play Festival for Independent Schools. Appleby's entry was "Fool's Errand", directed by Michael Crabb (who was then my history teacher, now he is an arts producer and commentator at CBC radio). I was involved as Stage Manager for this project."

Original photographs:
Scrapbook contains an original photograph of students in Walker house in 1974, as well as 23 photographs of the March 1975 student trip to Lake Temagami and the Northern Campus. Note attached to the Northern Campus photographs: "23 small colour photos all from one roll of film - taken in March 1975 at the Northern Campus. Bruce Peart and I were co-leaders for this session of winter Northward Bound." It also includes a letter and envelope from Rabbit Nose Lodge where John worked for one summer at Lake Temagami. A note attached reads: "My mother saved this item - a letter to my family sent from the Northern Campus in June 1975. I was employed there for the summer working as a leader at Appleby's summer camp sessions on Rabbit Nose Island."
Scrapbook also contains four original photographs of John on the sail training vessel 'Pathfinder'. He includes this note: "Mr furling sails aloft on the sail-training vessel "Pathfinder" out of Toronto. Do I look sea-sick in this photo? I certainly was at the time (1974)."
Scrapbook also contains photographs of the pins, jerseys and ties that John donated to Appleby. There are also a few pages of typed memories as well as a brief biography of life after Appleby.

Collection consists of material of John's time as a student at Appleby College from 1971-1976 (Class of 1976), and includes an acceptance and award letter, a scrapbook containing both photocopied and original images of sports teams and the first winter trip to the school's Northern Campus on Lake Temagami in 1975, school related programs, letters, a documentary pictorial inventory of donated items, and a biography. The collection also includes an Appleby Colours jacket, a First XV Rugby team jersey, a First Football team jersey, school ties, custom silver cuff-links, school pins awarded for academic achievement and athleticism, a Lieutenant Governor's Silver medal, and a book prize.

Item consists of a sound recording of an oral history interview between faculty member Mr. H.C. Hardwick who taught English and French from 1929 and 1964, and alumni's Randy Smye '63 and Michael DesRoches '62. They discuss life at Appleby College including quite a bit about corporal punishment and discipline.

It includes discussion of faculty member Mr. Colley and various incidents during World War 2. There is discussion about Mr. Wickens both as a teacher and later as a headmaster, life at Appleby during the Depression years and the economic difficulties the school faced; how Mr. Hardwick came to be at Appleby College as a languages teacher; how Mr. Whittington and Mr. Wickens oversaw the dramatic society.
Mr. Hardwick talks about the publication of his books as well as the school play 'How Lancelot came to Camelot'.
Other topics include: tug of war teams, inter-house battles, new gym, junior school, chapel - the opening and the organ, E.V. Brown and the building of his house; female staff including Miss James and Miss Niblett; founder Mr. Guest; the electrical system at the school, floods; facilities man Bert Halsey; different teachers and some of the stories about them and their personal lives; lists various early students and their personalities and how they were punished when they were bad.
