Part of Alastair Walker fonds
Item consists of a black and white photograph of Bill Adams, the groundskeeper for Appleby School holding a shovel and digging in the ground. Note written on verso: "Bill Adams in charge of fruit trees, vegetables and gardening. He came with Mr. Guest from UCC, an old faithful who from the front looked like Beams father's caricature of the British Tommy 'Old Bill' - of the French warfare joke, 'If you know a better ole, go to it'. Scnes of havoc, mind, broken trees and desolation".
