              File consists of correspondence, obituaries and information about John A.M. Bell, who taught at Appleby from 1928 to 1937 and then became the Headmaster from 1937 until his retirement in 1968.

              File also includes correspondence regarding his hiring to teach at Appleby College in 1927-1928, a letter regarding possible employment at another school, and information on his life insurance policy.

              File consists of records pertaining to the chapel organ in the John Bell Chapel at Appleby College. It includes correspondence regarding the purchase and installation of the original Casavant organ which was installed by the Woodstock Pipe Organ Builders Ltd., as well as the purchase and installation of the Organ Screen by The Globe Furniture Co. Ltd. There is also correspondence with Lady Edith Baillie, who donated funds for the purchase of the screen. There is also correspondence from Violet Walker who donated funds for the purchase of the organ. There is also information on the organ as well as invoices for parts and labour.

              File consists of correspondence, obituaries and biographical information about Hilda Chattaway, who served as the Appleby College Head Chef from 1929 to 1985. It includes correspondence wit h the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario and the Governor General of Canada about Hilda's 50 years of service. There are a few letters from Hilda to various people at Appleby, information on Hilda's Window that she donated at the Chapel to honour Miss Niblett and Miss James, salary information for Hilda, the chapel program from her funeral, and several newspaper articles about her life.

              File includes a letter dated March 1, 1979 from Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II regarding Hilda's upcoming 50th anniversary.

              File consists of biographical information about Thomas B. Colley, who was a teacher at Appleby from 1914-1915 and again from 1919 to 1949. He was House Master of School House and the building was renamed Colley House in his honour upon his death in 1949.

              File includes correspondence between Mr. Guest and Thomas Colley regarding employment contracts and wages, as well as housing. There is also correspondence upon the death of Thomas Colley and his estate.

              File consists of correspondence related to the history of Appleby College. It includes a 1917 letter inquiring about the sale of a bull, a postcard addressed to the school dated to 1918, a 1919 letter from Prince Edward - The Prince of Wales from his visit to Canada, a Christmas greeting letter from 1935 talking about the skating and ice conditions, a letter to Sir Edmund Walker regarding a suitable camp site for the students in 1920 (Camp Kushog - See Dec. 1920 Argus), a letter dated to 1938 discussing the cooking and food offerings at the school, reminiscences of school days gone by, the hanging of the new Canadian flag at Appleby College in 1965, and a letter dated to 1966 discussing the 1913-1914 prefects.

              The file also includes correspondence regarding Miss Grindlay's photo album, correspondence from various alumni about their time at Appleby, correspondence about articles in the Quarterly and Argus including the school bell, as well as letters from family of alumni who may have donated items to the school archives. It also includes a sworn declaration regarding the history of McCraney House.

              Sub-file consists of correspondence pertaining to the Appleby College Coronation Choir and includes information about the Coronation ceremony, congratulatory letters, thank you letters for various performances, and planning letters for the trip to England.

              Sub-file consists of the final trip report written by Choirmaster E. Leslie Bott and outlines how the trip went and were the choir performed during their trip to England.

              Grindlay, Edith

              File consists of correspondence between Headmaster Mr. Guest and employee, Edith Grindlay. Edith was hired in 1911 to be both school nurse and school matron, and was one of the original employees when the school opened. Correspondence includes reference letters and her acceptance letter; letters regarding purchasing initial supplies and setting up the dormitories, kitchen and infirmary in the original School House (later Colley House) in 1911. Later letters include which supplies to order for the new Headmaster's house and the hospital, which were built in 1913. Supplies that are discussed include curtains, bedding, linens, flooring, paint, and dishes. There is also correspondence about Edith learning to type on a typewriter, canning supplies and canning the fruit on the property, as well as where to purchase and how much food should be purchased.

              During World War 1 there is correspondence about rationing and the rising cost of food, as well as brief mentions of alumni who had gone off to war, including Massey, Crawley and Powell.

              There is quite a lot of correspondence about the hiring and salary of female domestic staff including kitchen and dormitory cleaning staff. There is also some mention of the men on the Facilities team and the work they should be doing as well as some of their personal problems, including drinking.

              There is also quite a lot of correspondence about supply orders and payments, with several receipts from Eatons, Singer Sewing Machine Company and others.

              Throughout the letters there are brief mentions of early staff members including Mr. Colley, Mr. Powell and Mr. Whittington.

              Edith worked for Appleby from 1911 until she was married in October 1920. She did come back to work for a short period of time in 1924 and there is one letter, possibly from her 1924 return which outlines what she will try to accomplish.

              Sub-series consists of correspondence from the Headmaster to various people and organizations. It also includes meeting notes from Assistant headmasters meeting with the headmaster.

              Sub-series includes correspondence to Headmaster Rev. John Bell regarding the proposal for school aged boys in England to be evacuated to Canada during World War 2 and for Appleby to start preparations. There is also correspondence about a request from the National Department of Pensions and National Health regarding providing training to the students in case there is an air raid or bombing in Canada, as well as requesting that school publications refrain from printing information about the location of Old Boys serving overseas.

              Sub-file consists of a railway ticket, the ship manifest/passenger list, postcards and documentation relating to the ships that the choir travelled on to and from England, 'Empress of Australia' and the 'Columbia'.

              Sub-file also includes a theatre ticket, a day pass into Westminster Abbey, as well as permits for visiting Buckingham Palace.
